FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Founded in 2024, MRLBA partners with local governments and community organizations to accelerate the redevelopment of neglected, abandoned, environmentally hazardous, and functionally obsolete properties within the State of Maine.

The MRLBA doesn’t charge the communities we serve for outreach or technical assistance. We achieve financial sustainability as sites are actively acquired and cleaned up, in the form of grant matches from municipalities or recovering costs from the proceeds of the sale of improved properties. All compensation is approached on a case-by-case basis and will be clearly outlined and agreed to before we begin our work together.

Everything begins with an initial conversation. Fill out this form and we’ll reach out to schedule an introductory meeting or site visit!

No. We were created by the government of the State of Maine as a separate corporate entity to execute a public-focused mission and vision. We have our own decision-making process governed by bylaws and our staff are not State employees. However, the State has granted us some essential tools to achieve our goals. We can acquire and sell real estate, assist in clearing title, acquire grant funds, issue bonds for the cleanup of sites, and utilize our dedicated funding source to keep us nimble and flexible.

Right now! We are up and running and ready to help. Be one of our first projects and help us show the State what a redevelopment land bank can do for communities and economies.
